(a sampling of what I've been drinking a lot of lately)
I've had this terrible sore throat and cough (don't they go hand in hand?) since Saturday.
As soon as the symptoms started (although I wasn't home at the time)... ok, as soon as I got home, I made myself some tea and kept my mug filled. I'm a believer in drinking lots of fluids to flush out those nasty bugs. Well, I've been doing my part... but don't seem to get relief. I've since lost my voice and communicating has become a little challenging right now, not to mention I'm exhausted from lack of sleep (4 hours tops at night - between coughing, throat too sore to swallow, and getting up to, well, you know... get rid of the tea!).
Right now I'm drinking some tea made with a good chunk of ginger and 1 tsp honey.... very soothing, hopefully it helps keep the tickle away, but I was thinking... and maybe I'll be sorry for asking...but there must be some good home remedies out there.
Please do share... I really need to sleep!
p.s. the chicken noodle soup is on

I do the ginger and honey thing too, sometimes with a bit of lemon juice in there. It helps kill infections. It's amazing how a little sore throat can be so debilitating! Hope you feel better soon!
I do tylenol!
Plain and simple. I refuse to suffer through the pain, although I do drink lots too when I'm sick. Lots of water and tea, I've started consumming herbal blueberry tea, and I must say I feel better at the end of the day when I drink that over coffee. Sorry I don't have any "natural" remedies for you. Hope you feel better soon.
Sheila~ I definitely have been taking Tylenol and Advil...to the max...which only takes the edge off a bit. Thought maybe I had strep since it was so intense, but a test was negative today.
Otherwise, I'm unable to use throat lozenges or any type of cough medicines.
Oh Sara, you poor thing.
This is what I have heard works. . .rub the bottom of your feet with Vicks Vaporub and put socks on to go to bed.
I haven't tried it yet. . .but I've heard it works.
Feel better soon.
I'm a fan of good old fashioned Buckley's to sooth a sore throat.
I cannot get Buckley's past my uvula but Harv likes to use it. For years our family has used a Chinese herb medicine called Nin Jiom -- but it works best if you start using it the minute you feel a cold coming on. It tastes really good. It's a thick syrup and you have to drink a bit of warm water after you take it (very soothing). I have also used Echinacea (tincture extract) and Cold-FX -- these do help if you use them RIGHT AWAY but sometimes a cold can be SO persistent. Last Fall I had a cold (2 colds actually, back-to-back)... it was so determined to hang on. It didn't take long and I eventually succumbed to using Tylenol and all those types of drugs. It was nasty. (Advil constipates me so I avoid using it if I can.)
... hope you get better soon, Sara.
